foundation deposit
Any foundation deposit was found in situ. The only object ascribed to the deposit is known from the museum collection and is displayed in the Museum of Fine Art in Boston. It is an adze-blade with an inscription: “Good God Maat-ka-Ra beloved of Osiris, Foremost of the Westerners in his temple in Abydos (nṯr.t nfr.t Mȝʿ.t-kȝ-Rʿ mrjjt Wsjr ḫntj Jmn.tjw m ḥwt.f n.t ȝbḏw)” which described the provenance more precisely than the objects from the foundation deposits of Thutmose III found in their original archaeological context: “the Good God, Men-kheper-Ra, may he live forever, beloved of Osiris, Lord of Abydos”[1] or the inscription on an axe from the British Museum: “the Good God, Men-kheper-Ra, beloved of Osiris”.
