rock shrine

The shrine is located as the second in a row of seven shrines hewn in the same cliff, 111.6m south from shrine 7, much lower than shrines 6 and 7. As other shrines, it faces the river.

The plan of the shrine is similar to other shrines and consists of a single room and a niche in the rear wall. Its façade is recessed approximately 50cm into the face of the rock. The room is covered with a flat undecorated ceiling and measures 2.54m of width and 2.35m of depth and is 1.9m high. The decoration of walls was painted and partially executed in sunken relief. The scenes of the main room surrounded by a block border were originally painted, now are devoid of colour. The shrine is seriously damaged. The shrine was prepared for Sen-nefer-i, Overseer of What Is Sealed and Royal Herald, who is attested mainly during the sole reign of Thutmose III.
