A new article on the decoration of the Southern Room of Amun at the temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari:

The Motif of Building Activity in the Speeches of Amun-Kamutef from the Southern Room of Amun in the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, [in:] Maria Helena Trindade Lopes, Joanna Popielska-Grzybowska, Jadwiga Iwaszczuk, Ronaldo Guilherme Gurgel Pereira (Eds), Ancient Egypt 2017. Perspectives of Research, Warsaw-Wiesbaden 2020, 101-110

by Katarzyna Kapiec

has been released by the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Harrassowitz Verlag.

The article discusses the speeches of Amun(-Ra)-Kamutef from the east and west walls of the Southern Room of Amun in the temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, with a special focus on the motif of building activity introduced in these texts. Speeches are located in the offering scenes where Hatshepsut together with her ka presents different kinds of oils to the god. A focus on the building aspects allows an examination of the construction of the discussed speeches and similar texts from the temple and other monuments built by Hatshepsut, as well as identification of possible reasons for emphasising this particular part of her reign.
