[HatOb_951] Scarab of Hatshepsut

Scarab made of blue glazed steatite. Type 4[1] - back with marked prothorax and elytra. On the base there is an inscription with Hatshepsut's prenomen in cartouche:  "Maat-ka-Ra, the Lord of Two Lands, the Good God, given life for eternity  (Mȝʿ.t-kȝ-Rʿ nb tȝ.wj nṯr nfr ʿnḫ ḏ.t​)". Hieroglyphs are located on both sides of the cartouche - nb tȝ.wj and ʿnḫ are on the left, the rest of the signs are on the right. The cartouche is topped with double ostrich feathered crown with horns. Inscription is oriented vertically on the scarab.

Excavated by the H.E. Winlock (Metropolitan Museum of Art) in the temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari in 1926-1927. Gained by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1927 in the division of finds (Rogers Fund).
